ABOUT
Pine Mountain Pottery
Caylan S. Fisher-DeLisi
The MakerMy name is Caylan, and I’ve been making pottery for about 15 years. I started by showing my wares in my home state of New Jersey and the NYC Metropolitan area. After a big move across country I find myself in my home studio in the alpine village of Pine Mountain Club in Los Padres National Forest, about an hour north of Los Angeles.
I am continually inspired by the landscape, wildlife, and weather around me. Sometimes it’s somewhat literal, such as inscribing pine trees onto a mug, but more often less so, such as finding the color of snow in the moonlight. Sometimes it means just zoning out while staring at a storm rolling over the mountains, and finding room in my mind for a new idea.
My husband Mike, my son Desmond, our two cats and I are happy to call Pine Mountain Club our home, and are grateful to my local community for supporting my work. I hope you enjoy.
The Work
Berry Bowl, 2020
This collection came about while I was stuck at home during the pandemic. The black clay that was so signature to the body of work I had made previously was no longer available, shows and events were canceled left and right. As a learning exercise I decided to study masters of pottery, and work on getting really good at making pots that other potters would appreciate. I would allow the clay and throwing process to inform my style, rather than drafting, designing, and imposing an idea onto the clay. I try to edit and elevate otherwise humble pots into a refined, earthy, elegance. My hope is that each pot can find a place in any contemporary collector’s home.
